7 Fun Things to Do With Your Dad on Father's Day
Father's Day is quickly approaching. Unlike last year, when most of us were confined to our homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we should be able to go out, meet Dad, and have some fun participating in Father's Day activities this year, with restrictions lifted and social distancing rules relaxed.
We have activities that the entire family can participate in, as well as some ideas that allow dad to relax on his own.
1.Scavenger hunts
If your father enjoys games, mysteries, and history, a scavenger hunt might be just the thing for his special day. Professionally organized games can be found on websites such as cityhunt.com, cityscape.com, and Riddleroutes.com. You can also find entertaining free printables to use while walking around your neighborhood.
Most scavenger hunts take place in cities, so this is a great idea if you live near a major city or if your father is willing to drive. These hunts are a great way to bond with dad, and many are customizable, so you can include the entire family if you want.
2. Outdoor Movie Night
For at least several years, the backyard movie trend has been growing as a great way for families to engage while remaining at home. If you're still worried about COVID, this is a great way to stay at home while getting out!
You don't even need a fancy projection screen; simply hang a white sheet or table cloth taut. However, you will require a projector. Many projectors are available on Amazon for less than $200, and the best part is that you can reuse this gift again and again!
Mix together some of Dad's favorite foods and snacks, fill a bucket with ice and beverages, bring some blankets or chairs out to the backyard, and watch one of Dad's favorite movies.
3. Golf
If you have a father who enjoys golf, this is a simple gift! You can book him a tee time on a favorite green, or you can go to the driving range together. If you have small children, consider a round of mini-golf followed by some time for dad to play the adult version on his own or with his friends.
If the weather is bad, see if there are any indoor mini-golf courses in your area!
4. Attend a Baseball Game
Going to Phillies games with my parents was one of my favorite childhood memories. I have a picture of me and my dad from when I was about two years old on my fridge, all decked out in an 80s style Phillies short-set!
Baseball is, as the saying goes, "America's pastime," and it's a great way to spend the day with Dad. As you sit back and relax while watching your favorite team, you can indulge in ballpark food and beer together.
Many stadiums have reopened, so see if your team is playing and what the rules are. You can also see if your hometown's minor league team will be in town!
5. Boating or fishing
If your father enjoys the lake, consider taking him on a fishing or boating trip. If there are no nearby fishing spots, you can always take a road trip and possibly stay in a cabin for the night.
Even if you're not a fisherman, fishing poles are reasonably priced, so you should be able to pick one up to accompany Dad!
6. Host a Barbecue
It may seem cliche, but sometimes all you need for a perfect father's day is good food and time spent with your family. Allow dad to take the reins and do the grilling if he enjoys cooking; otherwise, prepare the meal for him.
To make it more of an event, include some backyard games like cornhole, ladder golf, or badminton.
7. Collaborate to Create Something
If your father is the handyman type, perhaps a great gift would be to make something together! Younger children may enjoy working together to build a birdhouse that can be hung in the backyard as a keepsake. Craft ideas and kits of all kinds can be found online, so there are plenty of options for all types of dads!
