5 Super Easy and Fun Games That Can Be Played Anywhere
Finding time to relax and play is not only enjoyable, but it is also as important as getting a good night's sleep. With that in mind, here are five incredibly simple yet addictive games suitable for both adults and children. The best part is that they don't require any equipment other than enthusiasm and a good time.
1. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
WHAT: A classic spoken game in which a series of questions are asked to encourage deductive reasoning.
HOWEVER: One player has an idea and keeps it to themselves. He or she informs the other players whether it belongs to one of the three categories: person, place, or thing.
The other players must then ask various questions in order to guess what the object is. The catch is that all questions must be answered with a simple "yes" or "no," with the goal of determining the mystery object in under 20 questions.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 MIX IT UP A LITTLE: Change the categories on a regular basis, for example, animal, vegetable, or mineral.
2. MAKE ME LAUGH
WHAT: A fun game in which you try not to laugh while making other people laugh.
HOWEVER: Players are divided into two teams, each with at least two people. Team one is invited "on stage" (there is no need for a stage!) and a member of team two is asked to sit in the "hot seat."
The team on stage has two minutes to make the person on the hot seat from the opposing team laugh. If the person in the hot seat can maintain a straight face for the entire two minutes, their team earns a point; if they crack under pressure, the points go to the budding comedians on the opposing team.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 4
CHANGE IT UP A LITTLE: Make it more difficult by having the person in the hot seat close their eyes, requiring those on stage to rely solely on their wit and comedic prowess rather than pulling silly faces or performing a funny dance.
3. I SPY
WHAT: An extremely simple yet addictive detective game in which you must guess an object in the vicinity of another player's choice.
HOW: One player considers an object that they and all the other players can see around them and declares, "I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with..." followed by the first letter of the word they are considering. The other players must then try to guess what the first player saw.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2
CHANGE IT UP A LITTLE: Instead of saying the first letter, the player with an object in mind could say: "I spy something......" and fill in the blank with an adjective that describes it.
4. TAG
WHAT: This classic children's chasing game is also enjoyable for adults, and it's a great way to get some fresh air outside during the summer.
HOW: A single person is chosen to be "it." This person counts to ten to give the other players a chance to spread out before pursuing them. The "it" player's job is to try to tap another player, and if they succeed, the player who was tagged becomes "it," and the game continues indefinitely.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2
CHANGE IT UP A LITTLE: Instead, play shadow tag. In this variation, the people being pursued must ensure that the "it" player does not touch their shadow!
When their shadow is stepped on, the players being pursued freeze in place, and the last person to be shadow tagged becomes "it" in the next round.
4. LABEL
WHAT: This traditional children's chasing game is also fun for adults, and it's a great way to get some fresh air outside during the summer.
HOW: A single individual is chosen to be "it." This person counts to ten in order to give the other players time to spread out before pursuing them. The "it" player's job is to try to tap another player; if they succeed, the tagged player becomes "it," and the game continues indefinitely.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS REQUIRED: 2
MIX IT UP: After you've played for a while, make it a little more difficult by imposing a rule that all words must be longer than 8 letters.
