10 Fun Facts About Animal Groups That Will Make You Smile

There are many animals in the world that live in groups, gangs, or even gaggles. Some of these groups can be very large, such as the massive million-strong wildebeest migrations, or very small, such as a lion pride. There is safety in numbers, and having some helpers makes it much easier to find food. Animal colonies, caravans, or clowders, whatever you call them, these animal fun facts will brighten your day and make you smile.

A Group of Gorillas

Gorillas are large apes native to Africa that travel in groups but do not play musical instruments. According to Live Science, a gorilla band can be as large as 50 or as small as two. Every day, gorillas spend their time napping, playing, napping, grooming, and napping again.

Gaggle of Geese

A male goose is a gander, a female goose is just a goose, but a gaggle of them on the ground is a gaggle. It's a completely different story up in the air. Flying geese are a team, a skein, or a wedge when they are flying close together information, and they are a plump when they are flying close together information.

Zebras in a Zeal

According to National Geographic, each zebra has its own unique pattern of stripes, just as each person has their own unique fingerprints. Zebras live in the wild in Africa in herds called zeals and, like humans, tend to stick together in family groups.

A Council of Owls

A parliament is a group of owls; at least, that's what C.S. Lewis called a meeting of owls in The Chronicles of Narnia, and it just sort of stuck. According to The Audubon Society, owls can rotate their necks 270 degrees. What better way to hunt prey than with eyes almost in the back of your head?

Glaring of Cats

According to National Geographic, domestic cats are great hunters because they have a super-secret weapon: their glaring eyes. Cats' eyes are light-reflective, which allows them to see and catch prey (those little gifts they bring you). Perhaps this is why a group of cats is referred to as a glaring.

Monkeys in a Barrel

Monkeys simply want to play and have a good time. And what could be more entertaining than a barrel of monkeys? There are 264 monkey species, which are divided into two groups: old world monkeys that live in Asia and new world monkeys that live in South America. While a group of monkeys is sometimes referred to as a tribe, we prefer the term barrel because these adorable creatures are a barrel of laughs.

Parade of Elephants

African elephants are the largest land animal, and a parade of elephants is referred to as a herd. The Smithsonian has a fun fact about elephants: they don't like peanuts. They do not eat them in the wild, nor are they fed peanuts in zoos. This urban legend was passed down from generation to generation.

Leopards leaping

Leopards are so fast that they can run at 58 km/h and leap 6 meters horizontally, according to Animal Planet. It's no surprise that a group of leopards is referred to as a leap. Leopards are solitary, secretive, and elusive, making them difficult to locate in the wild. Snow leopards can be found in Russia, as well as parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Towering Giraffes

These long-necked African animals are the tallest in the world. According to National Geographic, an adult male can grow to be 5.5 meters tall, which is taller than three men. It's no surprise that giraffe herds are referred to as towers. Their height enables them to reach the most delectable morsels, the buds, and leaves of acacia trees. Yummy.

A Raven's Unkindness

Unkindness is a group of ravens because ravens were thought to bring bad luck in ancient mythology. That, however, is not fair to one of the most intelligent birds. According to Mental Floss, if another raven can see him, a raven will pretend to hide its food in one location and then hide it in another. It will pretend to be dead to keep other ravens from stealing its food, and it has been known to steal fish from fisherman's lines.
